James Rubley Obituary

James “Jim,” “Jimmy,” or “Gentle Jim,” A. Rubley, age 76, of Shipshewana, IN passed away on Thursday, February 3, 2022 at Life Care Center in LaGrange, IN. Mr. Rubley was born on June 10, 1945 to Wayne and Lucille (Wilbor) Rubley.  Jim graduated from Orland High School and then continued his education at Indiana University in Bloomington, IN where he majored in Education.  He began his professional life in education at Prairie Heights as a schoolteacher.  Jim was a Life-long blacksmith and belonged to several organizations that surrounded his trade.  He was also an accomplished Eagle Scout.  Throughout Jim’s professional life as a blacksmith, he was employed by Colonial Williamsburg where he helped build Conner’s Prairie in Indianapolis.  Jim also was approached and employed by Eli Lilly for his outstanding skill as a Blacksmith.  He owned and operated DNM Forge-Rubley Knives for over 40 years in Shipshewana, IN where he could showcase all of his skillful trade.  Jim loved the lake life and being at the sandbar.  He was an avid Indianapolis Colts Football fan.  Every Wednesday Jim would scour the antique auction for hidden rarities.  After collecting his prizes, he would join up with “the guys” at The Kitchen Cupboard in Shipshewana for coffee and good conversation.  Jim was an incredible historian as well and knew things many wouldn’t even know ever existed.  Jim will be missed by his dear friends and those who’s life he touched throughout his journey.  

Survivors include:
Son, Andrew (Neeti) Rubley.
Son, Matthew Rubley.
Granddaughter, Nora Jane Rubley.
Sister, Elaine Willms.
Girlfriend, Carole Weissert
Life-long friend, Mike Cramer.  

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at 4:00pm with calling 1 hour prior from 3:00pm-4:00pm at Hess Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 603 South Detroit Street, LaGrange, IN 46761.

Officiating the service will be Pastor Francis Warren.
