Gary McDonald Obituary

Gary Herbert McDonald, age 72, of LaGrange, IN passed away peacefully at his residence on Wednesday, January 10, 2024.  Mr. McDonald was born on October 20, 1951 in LaGrange, IN to the late Burney Roy and Donna Maxine (Strawser) McDonald.  He served his country honorably with the United States Marine Corp.  He attended Riverside Community College in Riverside, CA.  On September 19, 1970, he married Patricia Susan Robinson in Sturgis, MI.  Gary was extremely passionate about astronomy.  He worked for two telescope production manufacturing companies, one called Parks Optical and the other was JMI for many years.  He also was a welding supervisor for Syndicate Systems in Middlebury, IN for 10 years.  He enjoyed building telescopes from scratch, observing the beauty and mystery of the stars and sky, as well as using them for astrophotography.  Gary also enjoyed the freedom and relaxation of riding his Harley motorcycle. He also was a fan of fishing, target shooting, and playing games with his close friends and family.  Gary was best described as a boy scout by nature.  He was honest, loving, generous in nature, loyal, loving towards animals, and the best kind of friend to have.  His country, family, and close loved ones were his focal point in life and he never failed to show up and be there for them.
