Garlan Vaughn Haarer, age 90, of Goshen, IN formerly of LaGrange, IN went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 25, 2022 at Waterford Crossing in Goshen, IN. Mr. Haarer was born on May 26, 1932 in LaGrange, IN to Frank and Grace (Beam) Haarer. From 1980-2000, he worked in general maintenance for Coachmen. Garlan was a member of Calvary Chapel in Sturgis, MI. For 7 years, he sang with a men’s choir called “Gospel Messengers.” Garlan’s caring and gentle characteristics led him to 30 years of prison ministry and teaching men of God. He enjoyed taking walks and tending to his garden. Garlan loved basketball, shooting hoops, watching games, and following the Lakeland Lakers. Garlan left a legacy of compassion and love for those whose life he touched. He had a life well lived and an example well set.

Granddaughter, Ashley (Kevin) Ceisel of Houston, TX.
Grandson, Christopher Wittrig of Elkhart, IN.
Great-grandson, Nathaniel Ceisel of Houston, TX.
Sister, Miriam Wellington of Goshen, IN.
Sister, Erma Eash of Sturgis, MI.
Garlan was preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers, Harmon, Norman, John, Noble, and Larry Haarer, and 2 brother-in-laws, John Wellington and John Eash.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 from 4:00pm-7:00pm at Hess Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 603 South Detroit Street, LaGrange, IN 46761.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, September 29, 2022 at 11:00am at Hess Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
Burial will take place at Shore Cemetery in Shipshewana.
Memorial donations may be directed to ARK Animal Shelter of LaGrange County.
