Virgil Dunkel Jr., age 82, of LaGrange, IN passed away on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at Parkview LaGrange Hospital in LaGrange, IN.  Mr. Dunkel was born on December 5, 1940 in Bronson, MI to Virgil Sr. and Ocie Dunkel.  Virgil retired from Dometic in LaGrange after 40 years of dedicated service.  He also worked for Glick's T.V. and enjoyed repairing small electronic items.  Virgil enjoyed being outdoors fishing and venturing with his companion of 25 years, Janet to garage sales.  He was known to always have an enormous smile and was nicknamed "Sunshine" by his friends.

Survivors include: Companion of 25 years, Janet Harp. 6 Children, Michael Dunkel, Robert Dunkel, Tina Dunkel, Ronnie "Hank" (Tiffany)  Dunkel, JoAnn Dunkel, and Hope Dunkel. Janet's Children, Jody (Brian) Burkhead, Ron (Kim) Frazier, and Jane (Virgil) Taylor. 16 Grandchildren. 17 Great-Grandchildren. Siblings, Darlene (John) Witham, Joyce (Jim) Aldrich, Joseph (Nancy) Dunkel, Kathryn Hill, Peggy (Herb) Baker, and Cynthia Dunkel.

Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, siblings; Sharon Ringler, Daniel Dunkel, and Douglas Dunkel, 2 brother-in-laws, Sam Ringler and Doug Hill.

Visitation with cremation to follow will be held on Wednesday, May 10, 2023 from 4:00pm-7:00pm at Hess Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 603 South Detroit Street, LaGrange, IN 46761.

Memorial donations may be directed to the funeral home for final expenses.
