Terry Eugene Hively

Terry Eugene Hively, age 81, of Fort Wayne, IN, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family and Pastor James Gier, on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at his residence.

Mr. Hively was born on September 18, 1944, in Chelsea, MA, to the late Homer Hively and Ada (Roberts) Miller. Terry was raised in Columbia City, IN, and graduated from Elmhurst High School in 1962. He later continued his education, earning an associate degree in mechanical engineering.

On October 3, 1964, Terry married the love of his life, Loraine Juergens, with whom he shared 61 wonderful years of marriage. He dedicated 46 years of service to International Harvester/Navistar in Fort Wayne as an engineer before retiring. During his distinguished career, Terry was awarded several patents related to braking system innovations. Terry possessed a strong entrepreneurial spirit and was involved in several small businesses throughout his life.

He was a faithful member of Ascension Lutheran Church, where he served on numerous committees, including nine years on the Board of Education for the church school.

Terry also had a deep commitment to his community and country. He ran on the American Party ticket for the U.S. House of Representatives in the 1978 election and later served as an election inspector at voting centers.

He cherished time spent with his family, especially their vacations to Disney World, where he and Loraine celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary surrounded by their children and grandchildren. Terry enjoyed many hobbies and interests, including golfing, where he proudly achieved a hole-in-one at Noble Hawk Golf Course, woodworking, competitive target shooting, Arabian horses, and caring for many beloved pets throughout the years.

Terry lived a full and meaningful life dedicated to his faith, family, and country. He will be remembered for his ingenuity, kindness, service, and devotion to those he loved.

Survivors include: his loving wife of 61 years, Loraine Hively; three daughters, Susan (Greg) Burgett, Lisa (Phill) Yoquelet, and Kristine (Jeff) Stacy; grandchildren, Neil Sauvage, Michael James, Derrick Burgett, Daniel Burgett, Katherine Stein, and Kumari Jainagerker; great-granddaughter, Hadley James; brother, Bryan “Tim” Miller; nephews, Shane Robert Peter Miller and Bryan “Kit” Christopher Miller; and numerous cousins and extended family members.

Terry was preceded in death by his parents, Homer Hively and Ada (Roberts) Miller; stepfather, Robert Miller; paternal grandparents, Irvin and Dorothy Hively; and maternal grandparents, Harry and Nellie Roberts.

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation prior from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., at Ascension Lutheran Church, 8811 St. Joe Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46835.

Burial will follow the funeral service at Concordia Cemetery Gardens, 5365 Lake Avenue, Fort Wayne, IN 46815.

Officiating the service will be Pastor Dr. Gary Zieroth.
