James B. Scott, age 66, of LaGrange, IN, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at IU Health University Hospital in Indianapolis, IN.

Born on May 5, 1959, in Welch, West Virginia, he was the son of Ernest and Alma (Hicks) Scott. James dedicated his life to hard work as a foundry worker, employed by both Auburn Foundry and Reliable.

An avid outdoorsman, James found joy in hunting, fishing, tending to his livestock, and cutting wood. In his younger years, he proudly competed as a skilled Golden Gloves boxer. Known for his generosity and strong work ethic, he was the kind of man who would give the shirt off his back to help someone in need.

James cherished time spent with his family and loved ones, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include: Son, Brian Scott of Angola, IN. Daughter, Melissa Scott of Granger, IN. Mother, Alma Scott of War, West Virginia. Grandchildren, Alissa Taylor, Christopher Taylor, and Jordan Taylor. Great-grandchildren, Amira Jade Taylor. Sister, Maxine (Jeff) Oswalt of LaGrange, IN. Also surviving are many other nieces, nephews, and extended family.

James was preceded in death by his father, Ernest Scott and a brother, Melvin Scott.

Funeral service will take place on Monday, August 25, 2025 at 1:00pm with visitation 1 hour prior from 12:00pm-1:00pm at Hess Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 603 South Detroit Street, LaGrange, IN 46761.

Burial will take place in Orange Cemetery in Rome City, IN.

Memorial donations may be directed to the family for final expenses.
