James "Jim" Joseph Barrand

James “Jim” Joseph Barrand, age 70, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at his residence.

Jim was born on March 21, 1956, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to the late Jack Eugene and Mary Jane (Seltenright) Barrand. He graduated from Southside High School in Fort Wayne in 1973. He continued his education at Missouri Southern University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree.

For 7 years, Jim served his country honorably with the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War era.

On November 11, 1985, Jim married Nelia DeAnn Woody in Fort Wayne, Indiana. They shared nearly 41 years of marriage together.

Jim was an avid fan of the Indianapolis 500 and especially enjoyed attending the race. He was also a devoted sports fan and particularly enjoyed watching British Premier League soccer. Jim loved the outdoors and cherished his time spent fishing at Atwood Lake near Wolcottville, Indiana. Above all, he treasured spending time with his family and loved ones. He also held a special place in his heart for his canine companion, Katie.

Surviving are his wife, DeAnn Barrand; daughter, Crystal (Jerry) Wireman; son, Jackson (Mackenzie) Barrand; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brother, Joe (Virginia) Barrand; and brother, John Barrand.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Jack Eugene and Mary Jane Barrand, and sister-in-law, Mary Barrand.

A celebration of Jim’s life will be held at a later date.
