Glenda “Joy” Montgomery, age 77, of Waynedale, Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at her residence. She was born on December 16, 1948, in Roaring Spring, Pennsylvania, to the late Robert and Margaret (Campbell) Smith. She obtained her GED in Pennsylvania.
On September 20, 1983, she married her husband, Steven Michael Montgomery, in Pennsylvania. For many years, Joy served the elderly at Lutheran Life Villages in Fort Wayne. Joy also was a dedicated server at the Halls Restaurant in Fort Wayne for many years as well. She later worked at New Vision in Southtown Mall in Fort Wayne before retiring.
Joy was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary #248. She was an avid reader and almost always had a book in her hands. She loved mysteries and had an adventurous spirit. Joy was also a great animal lover and enjoyed raising rabbits and caring for pet birds.
Joy was a happy-go-lucky woman who cherished spending quality time with her loved ones.
She is survived by her husband, Steve Montgomery; daughter, Sherry Scherer; son, Philip Petrick; step-daughter, Stephanie Montgomery; step-sons, Gary (Jennifer) Brown and Jerry Brown; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four sisters, and 3 sister-in-laws; Susie (Kevin) Jones, Melody Lehman, and Sherri (Kenny) Smith.
Joy was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Larry Montgomery; four sisters; her step-son, Steven Montgomery II; step-grandson, Steven Montgomery III, and a brother-in-law, Dee Lehman.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Arrangements and care have been entrusted to Hess Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Fort Wayne, Indiana.
