IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Edmund F.
Dinsmore Jr.
January 24, 1942 – April 14, 2023
Edmund F. Dinsmore, Jr., 81, of Sturgis, MI, peacefully passed on April 14, 2023 surrounded by family.
Ed was born on January 24, 1942 in Baltimore, MD and raised in Lancaster, PA by his late parents, Edmund F. Dinsmore and M. Evelyn (Herr) Dinsmore. While attending Franklin and Marshall College, Ed met his wife, Barbara, on a blind date. Luck was in their favor that night as they fell in love and built a marriage that sustained and flourished for over 62 years.
With a can-do attitude and entrepreneurial spirit, Ed moved his young family to Sturgis, MI in 1976 to embark on several business ventures. He most recently retired from his successful role as General Manager of Micro Research Americas.
Ed had a passion for the game of soccer, officiating as a referee for high school, college, and semi-professional matches. He was President of the Western Michigan Soccer Referee Association and, after retiring as a referee, he was a US Soccer Referee Evaluator. Bonded by their love of the game, Ed and several of his fellow referees met monthly for lunch and philosophical debate at Martell's- a meeting affectionately known as the "Jedi Council."
Not one to sit on the sidelines, Ed was involved in various community endeavors, some of which included: SHS Booster Club, Kiwanis, Zoning Board of Appeals, Goodfellows Program, and the St. Joseph County Conservation and Sportsman Club. He also worked as his wife's "right hand man" in the box office for the Sturgis Council of the Arts from 1980-2008. Always up for an adventure whether by car or boat, Ed looked forward to cruising the countryside on Saturday lunch dates with Barbara, boating on Lake Michigan, sailing the Chesapeake Bay, and in his "Man Cave", where he made certain to have a nut for every bolt and a tool for every job.
More than anything, he had a fierce love for his family. He deeply cared for his wife, he was ever-present with his children, and he was incredibly proud of all four of his grandchildren, taking many opportunities to know and make known the family that he loved. And to all who knew him, Ed cherished your friendship.
Ed is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara, children; Jon Dinsmore and Kristen Dinsmore (Tom Webster) and four grandchildren; Claire (David) Ptashnik, Hugh Dinsmore, Greer Dinsmore and Joseph Domanick.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Lynn Dinsmore, and his sweet dog, Lucy.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A private memorial will be scheduled at a later date.
Memory Eternal!
