Nancy Ruth (Hart) Billman

Nancy Ruth (Hart) Billman, age 75, of LaGrange, IN passed away on Friday, February 3, 2023 at The Waters of LaGrange.  Mrs. Billman was born on November 19, 1947 in Sturgis, MI to Fred W. and Golda I. (Marchand) Hart.  Illness and physical affliction were well known to her especially in her early youth.  All her life, she was indebted to the friends, who encouraged her parents and assisted them in her admission to the Shriners’ Crippled Children’s Hospital in Chicago.  Due to their good help, plus her own determination to walk and God’s will that she walk, she enjoyed getting about and doing whatever she could to help others.  For a number of years, she cheered the residents of Miller’s Merry Manor with her presence there as a volunteer worker.

In fact one year, she was named volunteer of the year as she accumulated more than one thousand hours of volunteer time. She continued in this capacity after her marriage to Warren Billman on April 17, 1982.  Because of her walking difficulty, she discontinued volunteering in 1983, due to an orthopedic appliance it became necessary to wear.  She was a faithful companion to her husband, homemaker, and bringing happiness to his life after many years alone following the death of his mother.

Although she never knew the joys of motherhood, her life was enriched because of her marriage to Warren.  Nancy attended LaGrange grade school and high school. Her life was further expanded by her work at the School of Opportunity until 1978.  At that time she withdrew from the school after establishing a good work record, to help care for her mother following surgery.  Despite her occasional frustrations at the limited participation, she knew in the everyday world her strong faith in her Heavenly Father sustained her to the end. 

Funeral service will take place on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at 11:00am at Hess Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 603 South Detroit Street, LaGrange, IN 46761.

She will be laid to rest next to her husband at Greenwood Cemetery in LaGrange, IN.
