Betty Jo (Gard) Carney

Betty Jo Carney, age 77, of Howe, IN passed away on Thursday, March 2, 2023 at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, IN.  She was born on December 2, 1945 in Wolf Lake, IN to Harold and Mildred (Butts) Gard.  After High School, she married Jon Carney on December 6, 1963 in LaGrange, IN.  Betty was cafeteria manager for 35 years at Parkside Elementary School in LaGrange.  Betty loved cooking, eating, and going to dinner with her spouse.  She always had her television on and her remote was usually in her hand.  She enjoyed game shows, the cooking network, and old westerns.  Betty loved children and always cherished her time spent with her family and grandchildren.  

Survivors include:

Son, Frank (Melissa) Carney of Howe, IN.

Daughter, Carrie (Jeff) Berlew of Angola, IN.

Granddaughter, April Carney of Starke, FL.

Grandson, Jon Carney of Starke, FL.

Grandson, Nicholas (Brittney) Wilson of Shipshewana, IN.

Grandson, Cory Wilson of Elkhart, IN.

Great-grandchildren, Morgan, Brooklyn, Grayson, Justice, Tristan, Reagan, Brylee, Theo.

Great-grandchildren, Kaiden.  

Many nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her spouse, brother, Dale Gard, and sister, Wilma Jean Renner.  

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 7, 2023 from 4:00pm-8:00pm at Hess Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 603 South Detroit Street, LaGrange, IN 46761.

Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at 11:00am at Hess Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

Burial will take place following the funeral service at Greenwood Cemetery in LaGrange.

Officiating the services will be Pastor Ben Myers.

Memorial donations may be directed to Ark Animal Sanctuary.
